Brian R. Laxton focuses his practice on criminal and civil law. He is a leading practitioner in representing State Bar of Michigan applicants in character and fitness issues, including at the district and standing committee levels as well as before the Board of Law Examiners. He has lectured extensively on this process and has been a visiting professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School and Michigan State University College of Law, teaching professional responsibility. Mr. Laxton has also represented hundreds of people facing the criminal justice system. He gained extensive experience while prosecuting criminal offenses for one of the largest municipalities in the Lansing area. He has represented many clients in both state and federal criminal appeals. Mr. Laxton has experience in professional, occupation, and medical licensing matters related to the various state licensing boards and disciplinary subcommittees, including professional and medical licensing. He has successfully represented numerous licensing clients in administrative hearings against the state. Mr. Laxton also represents lawyers in discipline cases, in both the investigation stage and after a formal complaint has been filed. He has been frequently named to “The Best Lawyers in America” in the area of drunk driving defense. In 2010 Mr. Laxton received the “David vs. Goliath Award” for his work with law students.
